About Elsewhere

Elsewhere is a directory of companies worth buying from. We find businesses that do things differently — better labor practices, genuine charitable giving, real environmental commitments, worker ownership, community investment — and we list them here so you can find them.
It exists because avoiding these companies while actually shopping is harder than it sounds. They're everywhere, they're cheap, and their supply chains are deeply embedded in how most of us buy things. The news about how they treat workers, how they've shaped policy, and what they've chosen to optimize for hasn't gotten better. If anything it's gotten harder to look away.
The idea behind Elsewhere is simple: see what's out there when the usual options aren't on the table.
We won't pretend the tradeoffs aren't real. You may pay more. Some things you're looking for won't be here — certain products are so specific or so dominated by a single retailer that finding them elsewhere genuinely isn't possible yet. We think that's worth being honest about.
What we do believe is that consumer spending is one of the few forms of expression that cuts through regardless of who's talking. It registers at a scale that's hard to ignore. Elsewhere is a small tool for making that expression a little more deliberate.
We're glad you found us. We're in beta, which means things are still being built — but the directory works, and that's the point.
